Today, I'm sharing another Indian recipe that I'm thrilled about, having already made it four times in just two weeks. This comes from a trusted Indian friend, making it a tried-and-true household recipe that's simple to prepare, yet delivers outstanding results.
It's the perfect choice if you want something quick, healthy, and satisfying for family meals but don't want to bake traditional bread. Sofia loves eating them plain. They are also perfect for creative sandwiches, homemade shawarma, or enjoying with a flavorful dip.
In a large bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.
Using baking soda makes it softer, but it doesn't rise as well - experiment to see which you prefer.
Add milk and yogurt, then mix with a spatula or spoon.
Add 100 ml of water if the dough appears too dry.
Ensuring the dough is soft is very important.
Continue kneading the dough in the bowl with your hands.
Alternatively, place it on a floured surface and knead well until smooth and soft, adding more flour if it sticks to your hands or the surface.
Let the dough rest for 10-15 minutes, covered with a towel or plastic wrap to prevent drying.
Knead it again for about 5 minutes.
Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape them into balls. Arrange them on the surface and cover with plastic wrap to prevent drying.
After 5 minutes, roll them out with a rolling pin to make circles about 1.5 mm thick.
Meanwhile, heat an old pan thoroughly without oil!
Place the dough one by one to cook over medium heat.
Watch as they start to puff up.
They will continue to puff more.
I admit the first couple didn't puff perfectly - but it didn't significantly affect the taste or texture.
These puffs indicate the dough is well-prepared.
Flip them once browned on one side (with some golden spots).
You'll notice even more puffing, making them pillow-like :)
Meanwhile, remove them and keep them under a towel.
For those without cholesterol concerns, you can brush them lightly with butter while hot for enhanced flavor.
Repeat with all the dough pieces, serving them hot, or store them in a bag until the next day to keep them moist.
Here's a Bouns Recipe - quick, simple, and delicious dessert – "Grandmother's" Poppy Cakes.
Break the pita into small pieces, adding poppy seeds, nuts, raisins, or any preferred additions.
Prepare half a glass of syrup with hot water mixed with sugar, honey, or brown sugar for a richer syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon.
Pour this syrup over the poppy seeds, mix well, and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb.
You're ready to serve and enjoy :)
Bon appétit!
