Moldovan Apple Pies

Moldovan Apple Pies

Explore a variety of delightful apple pie and strudel recipes here, but let me share with you the sweet variation of my mother-in-law's pies, a straightforward and popular apple pie with a great flavor.

Apples are truly the stars of this recipe, releasing their juices comfortably into the dough without the need for pre-cooking. This apple juice absorbs into the dough, resulting in an exceptionally tender and delicious pie.

This recipe might also be called an apple strudel. Enhance the filling by adjusting the sugar or adding cinnamon, raisins, or any other favorite apple pie embellishment.

Ingredients

White flour
500 g

Sunflower oil
100 ml

Salt
1 tsp

Apples
1 kg

Sugar
1 cup
to taste, you can add cinnamon, raisins, etc.
Egg
1 piece
in the fasting version you can skip using egg

Step by step

Step 1

Prepare the dough following steps 1-6 from the Cheese Pie Recipe here, using 500g of flour.

Coat the dough sheets with oil and stack them together. Allow them to rest for 5-10 minutes.

Evenly spread half of the apple mixture, including its juices, over the entire surface.

Step 5

Cut the rolls into halves or thirds to suit your oven tray's dimensions.

Place them on the tray and brush with beaten egg on top.

For a vegan version, lightly coat them with oil and sprinkle with a bit of sugar.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden brown, about 40 minutes. After baking, leave them in the pan to cool for 15 minutes before transferring to a towel.
