Step 1
Measure 1 cup of rice and rinse it thoroughly in 2-3 changes of water.

In a deep frying pan or pot, melt the butter and add the oil.

Once melted, add the rice and mix well to ensure each grain is coated with the butter and oil mixture.

Add 2 cups of water, stirring well to prevent the rice from clumping.

Add salt, stir, and bring to a simmer.

When it starts to boil, stir well, reduce to low heat, and cover the pan with a lid to simmer slowly.
Step 7
In about 10 minutes, the rice should absorb all the water. Level it slightly and taste; it should be ready but slightly "al dente".
Step 8
Turn off the heat, cover the pot with a lid, and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. During this time, the rice will absorb more and become perfectly tender.
Step 9
Serve the rice as is, with your favorite vegetables or meat.
