This Puff Pastry Apple Dumplings recipe is a true delight for dessert lovers. I can’t believe I haven’t shared it until now—it's a must-try! These dumplings are packed with incredible aroma, offering a soft, flavorful apple interior wrapped in a crisp, golden puff pastry exterior.
Although homemade puff pastry makes them even more delicious, store-bought puff pastry works just as well. I’ll soon share a detailed recipe for making classic puff pastry from scratch, which takes this dessert to the next level.
Wash and peel the apples.
Cut the puff pastry into squares, approximately 10 cm on each side. Adjust the size based on the apples. Place one apple in the center of each square.
Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon in the center and around each apple. Adjust the amount based on your sweetness preference.
Start wrapping the apples in the pastry dough. Take one corner of the square and fold it over the apple, securing it well.
Lift the second corner of the square and fold it over the first, pressing it down.
Repeat the process with the third corner.
Finally, fold the last corner over the apple and make sure the dough is sealed tightly.
If you use too little dough, the pastry may break during baking, so make sure the squares are large enough to fully cover the apples.
After coating all the apples, place them on a baking tray greased with a bit of oil.
Brush the dumplings with beaten egg and bake them in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 1 hour.
If the puff pastry browns too quickly and the apples aren’t fully baked, cover the dumplings with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning.
Test with a knife to check if the apples are done. Once ready, take them out of the oven and let them cool slightly.
Sprinkle powdered sugar on top before serving. For an extra touch, you can pair them with vanilla cream, though they may disappear before you have the chance!
Enjoy your delicious Puff Pastry Apple Dumplings!
