We are fans of Greek cuisine and, naturally, this wonderful recipe caught my eye. These biscuits are delicious, flavorful, tender, special and vegan! Try this milopitakia recipe, it's like some mini apple pies, but much easier to serve.
By the way, I think with the same dough and filling you could even improvise a more Greek-inspired apple pie.
Pour 1 glass of hot boiling water over the raisins, let sit for 5-10 minutes, then drain.
In a saucepan, combine about 500g of apples, peeled and diced, with 100g of sugar. Cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
Stir regularly.
Wash the oranges properly, dry with a towel, then grate the peel. Pay attention, zest only the orange top portion of the peel!
After that, squeeze the juice - we need about 100ml for the dough.
Finely chop 40g of walnuts.
Meanwhile, the apples are done, soft and no longer have juice.
Add here the drained raisins, the chopped walnuts, 1 teaspoon of grated orange peel and 0.5 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix everything thoroughly.
In a large bowl, pour 100ml of orange juice, 100ml of oil and vanilla essence.
Add in 60g of sugar, 1 teaspoon of orange zest, 0.5 teaspoon of cinnamon, 350g of flour, 10g of baking powder and a teaspoon of salt.
Mix well, with a spatula or spoon at first.
Then, on the table, knead the dough until smooth, soft and not sticky at all.
Divide into 2 and shape into balls.
Let rest for 10-15 minutes.
After this time, in turn, roll out each ball into a sheet about 2-3mm thick.
Cut out circles, using a large glass or cup. Mine were 7-8cm diameter.
Place 1 teaspoon of apple filling on each circle.
Glue the opposite ends together.
Pinch the edges together into a kind of dumpling.
Shape the remaining dough after cutting the circles into another ball, let rest for 5 minutes then roll out again and cut out more circles.
Arrange the milopitakia apple biscuits in the baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 15-20 minutes, until lightly browned.
Allow to cool completely. Optionally, garnish with powdered sugar before serving.
Enjoy!
