Extremely delicious, this pie can be a beautiful appetizer, a good option for a picnic or when travelling, or to share with colleagues at work :) Sofia really liked it, she told me it was like a giant sandwich.
The pastry is a bit more interesting as it's got yeast in it and a softer texture. The poppy and sesame seeds on top are suitable and give an extra taste. And they look beautifully.
I would call it low-cost, but it has a large amount of cheese and ham, which are not really cheap. The quantities of ingredients were adapted for a large oven sheet and I don't regret making such a large pie, it got eaten quickly :)
Combine the yeast with warm milk, mix.
Measure the right amount of flour, place in a bowl, then add here the milk with the yeast, eggs, oil, salt.
Mix well with a whisk or spoon until there are no lumps.
You will have a rather thick batter, like the sour cream.
Line an oven sheet with baking paper.
Pour half of the batter and smooth out. Sprinkle with semolina over the entire surface.
Arrange thin slices of ham over the batter (it will help a lot if you buy already sliced ham).
Next comes a layer of grated cheese, using the largest shredding holes.
Over the cheese, there should be another layer of ham. I didn't have any more left, so my pie only had one layer of ham + one layer of cheese. If you have enough, I recommend putting the last ham layer, as well.
Then pour the remaining batter over the entire surface and carefully spread with a spoon, to perfectly cover the filling.
Sprinkle the poppy and sesame seeds on top. Let the pie rise for 20-25 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 160-180 degrees C.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until nicely browned.
Then remove and let cool for a bit.
Slice and serve with great pleasure. It's good either hot or cold.
Enjoy!
