A simple recipe and very well explained how to make gingerbread house at home. Make the recipe with the children and enjoy the waiting for Christmas together.
In a saucepan put the brown sugar, milk, butter and honey.
Put on the fire, mix and heat until all the ingredients melt, you don't have to boil them.
Set aside the syrup to cool - it should be hot or cold.
And during this time you take care of the house project. Have some math sheets, ruler, pen and scissors at hand.
Our father was an "architect", he did a very successful project - so I will give you the dimensions of our house at the last step.
Cut the pieces of the house out of paper, just after them we will cut the dough.
Now we continue with the dough - in a bowl mix the flour with the baking powder and the ground spices.
Because I didn't have brown sugar, but I wanted to make the house browner, I added 1 teaspoon of cocoa to the flour.
Over the flour mixture add the cooled syrup and 1 egg.
Knead the dough, as I usually recommend, first with a spatula / spoon and then with your hands.
A soft and pleasant dough comes out, very little sticky.
Break pieces of it and with the help of flour spread sheets about 0.5mm thick.
Move them on pieces of baking paper and cut the pieces of the house according to the prepared papers.
This is how you make all the pieces of the house and move them with baking paper on the oven tray.
Bake one at a time, at 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes - make sure they are done very quickly, so as not to burn them. Allow to cool.
From the rest of the dough we made a small house, small people and various shapes of biscuits.
When you want to start assembling the house, we prepare the "glue".
It is best to make a caramel from 100g of sugar + 3 tablespoons of water. Melt for 2-3 minutes in the microwave or on the stove. Heat it and melt it until it has a slightly yellow color.
The advantages of caramel are that the walls will immediately look good and harden nicely and quickly.
The disadvantage is that you have to be quick and careful (be very careful with children not to burn!) - it is very hot and hardens even during work, if necessary make another one or heat it up again.
Voila, here you see the work of the whole family, each with his job - someone holds you, another anoints the caramel, the little ones make a gallery :)
The house is ready, let it harden the caramel well, but in about 10 minutes you can continue decorating it.
Beat the egg whites until stiff, add a little powdered sugar.
Decorate according to your preferences and skills.
You can also use various commercial ornaments - chocolate balls, etc.
We have a small and a big house here, decorated one by mommy, another by Sofi.
The small house was made especially for those eager to taste it, Sofia could not wait to ruin it after mounting it.
Great joy for children, at least for that it is worth the effort.
The big house is sitting quietly under the tree and waiting for Santa.
Here I give you the dimensions of the walls of the house:
1. BASE, ie the floor - 12cmx18cm
2. Large side walls -2 pieces - 10cmx16cm - on one wall draw a door and 2 windows.
3. Roof - 2 pcs - 8.5cmx18.5cm
4. Small walls (those with angle for the roof) - 2 pcs - 10cm (base) x10cm (walls) x7cm (side of the trowel that will hold the roof) - here at an optional walls you can also make a window.
Good luck with your work!
