Strawberry Banana Jam

Strawberry Banana Jam

I had the idea yesterday to experiment with this combination since bananas complement strawberries beautifully, and yes, it's a fantastic recipe. I based it on the same strawberry jam recipe by adding 2 bananas to 1 kg of strawberries and slightly reducing the sugar.

The bananas perfectly enhance the strawberry flavor without overpowering it. This is definitely worth trying, as it will intrigue everyone with its unique taste.

The texture is just how a jam should be - thick and not runny at all.

Ingredients

Strawberries
1 kg

Sugar
1 kg

Bananas
2 pieces

Citric acid crystals
0.25 tsp

Step by step

Step 1

Place the prepared strawberries and peeled bananas in a bowl.

Add the sugar to the fruit mixture.

Step 3

Use your hands to mash the bananas and strawberries thoroughly.

Allow the mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes to release the juices and dissolve the sugar. Ideally, let it rest for 2-3 hours, or even overnight in the refrigerator.

Step 4

Transfer 2-3 cups of the mixture into a saucepan with a wide base, or a 28-30cm pan.

If using a smaller pot, like a kettle, do not exceed 1 cup of mixture.

Step 5

Set the pan over heat. Once boiling, reduce to medium heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for approximately 7 minutes.

Step 6

After this time, the jam will have caramelized and thickened, though some foam may remain.

When the jam is ready (after 7 minutes of boiling), remove the pot from the heat...

...and let it sit for 3-5 minutes, stirring 2-3 times. You'll notice the foam subsides and the jam is ready to be jarred.

Step 8

Optionally, place a few citric acid crystals at the bottom of the jar for added preservation.

Step 9

Pour the jam into the jar and prepare the next batch (I made about 5 batches from 1 kg of strawberries).

Once the jar is filled, tightly secure the lid before moving on to the next one. You should yield about 4 jars of 300ml each from these quantities.

Step 10

Like any jam, it is more liquid while hot; as it cools, it thickens beautifully.

If you need more guidance, the strawberry jam recipe provides additional explanations on boiling jam in small batches.

Enjoy your jam!
